Lunatask is a subscription-based service, with Free and Premium plans. We offer monthly and yearly payment options, as well as a one-time buy lifetime premium.

Can I enjoy your Free plan really forever?

Yes, our Free plan will always be free, forever 🥳

When I subscribe to Premium, will it cover all my devices?

Yes, there’s only ever one subscription, no matter how many devices or platforms you use – we’ve never liked apps that charge separately for each one.

Do you offer a trial?

Instead of a free trial, Lunatask employs a freemium model where the vast majority of features are available on our Free plan, with some additional sprinkles on top of them available on Premium plan.

Most features available on Premium plan are showcased on this documentation portal. You can also subscribe for one month to have a go and cancel at any time.

Do you issue discounts for students and teachers?

Yep! Simply request a 50% discount coupon at lunatask.app/education.

Note that discount coupons, once applied, will be active only on the plan you initially chose, as Paddle's discount coupons do not persist during plan upgrades or downgrades – it’s a technical limitation of our payment processor.

For this reason, please don't press the button to “upgrade” from a monthly to a yearly plan – you would be charged full price ⚠️

If you ever decide to upgrade (e.g. from our monthly to the yearly plan), cancel your existing subscription first, and then request a new discount coupon again at lunatask.app/education.

There’s no need to wait for the subscription to expire at the end of the period you already paid for – you'll get your new discount coupon immediately.

Once your monthly subscription eventually expires, simply create a new yearly subscription using the new discount coupon you already received – and no worries, no data will be lost in the process, in case you might wonder or be concerned about.

Discounts on lifetime purchase

We discontinued the option to apply student discounts for lifetime purchases some time ago to keep our numbers healthy. The lifetime plan has always been, and continues to be, popular with our users – perhaps way too popular.

We're a small self-funded operation with no external investors or influence. Although lifetime purchases are the reason Lunatask is here nowadays (they greatly supported its early development), they are making things more complicated for us now, further down the road.

It's paradoxical in a sense. We’re really appreciative and grateful to everyone who supports Lunatask by purchasing the lifetime plan, but it's precisely because our most loyal, passionate users and ambassadors who have been with us for a long time upgraded to the lifetime plan many years ago, and in many cases also with an education discount.

For this reason, we no longer offer discounts on the lifetime plan. It was a difficult decision, but a necessary one to ensure Lunatask's sustainable future. We didn't want to go with a significant price increase, as we see the current price as quite fair. We also wanted to keep the lifetime option (unlike Amazing Marvin, which removed their lifetime plan altogether for the same reasons), but we had to find the right balance.

We recommend going with our yearly plan if you’re a student or teacher – it's the best value for you, while also not hurting us if you stick with Lunatask long-term.

How can I purchase a lifetime premium?

The option to purchase the lifetime premium for a one-time payment can be found in Settings → Billing in our desktop app, in small text right below the pricing table.

Once activated, it will automatically sync and unlock all premium features on all your devices, regardless of platform or how many devices you have.

Lifetime purchase is not available in our mobile app. It is also not available in the Mac App Store version of the app. If you're on Mac, please download Lunatask for Mac in a DMG format from our website instead.

If you have an existing App Store or Play Store subscription, please cancel it first by following steps in either Apple's documentation or Google's documentation.

I'd like to make the purchase for an employee paid by the organization

If you are able to use a company card, you can purchase a one-time buy lifetime premium directly in the app as any other user would.

This option also allows you to pick a monthly or yearly subscription instead of a one-time buy lifetime premium. You can do that in person with your employee/colleague after they create an account in Lunatask or use an employee virtual credit card if your organization employs such a system.

Pay by invoice

If you want to pay by invoice, reach out, attach the information listed below, and we'll send you an invoice in return.

This invoice can be paid either via a bank transfer or using a secure link for credit card payment each invoice contains. When we receive the payment, we'll immediately send you a license code you or your employee/colleague can activate in-app.

For issuing the invoice, we'll need the following information:

  • Organization name and address (or your name if you are an individual)
  • Organization's VAT/tax ID (if applicable)
  • Contact name and email address (the invoice will be sent there)

A one-time buy lifetime license via invoice is $225 (+VAT/sales tax, if applicable depending on your country of origin). For organizations based in the United Kingdom, invoices are issued in GBP for convenience at a fixed price of £165 (+VAT, if applicable).

Access To Work

You will need the invoice and payment confirmation from your banking to have the payment reimbursed by the UK government's Access To Work program.

Lunatask uses Paddle.com as a payment, invoicing and credit card processor. Unlike their competitors such as Stripe or Braintree, Paddle also serves as a reseller and Merchant of Record.

The issuer listed on invoices we send to you will be Paddle.com Market Ltd or Paddle.com Inc, and the payment will be made to their JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. bank account.

I don't want to pay via a certain payment system, is there another way?

We have three separate payment processors implemented in our apps, so you can choose which one you prefer or avoid one if you have a particular reason. For example, if you want to avoid Google's payment system, there are always alternatives:

  • Lunatask for Windows or Linux uses Paddle as the payment processor
  • On Mac, Lunatask for Mac downloaded from the Mac App Store uses Apple's payment system, whereas the Mac version downloaded from our website in DMG format uses Paddle
  • Lunatask for iOS uses Apple's payment system, whereas Lunatask for Android uses Google's one, as required and enforced by those platforms

As a last resort, if you're on a mobile platform and don't have access to a desktop machine, we can alternatively send you checkout links for payment via Paddle, as Paddle's checkout is done in your browser. In that case, send us a message, but using the desktop app is the simplest recommended approach.

It doesn't matter which payment system you use or which version of the app you use to make the payment. In each case, the purchase will immediately sync across all your devices once completed.

Which countries are not supported?

We serve customers all around the world except for the restricted countries listed below. Countries could be restricted due to international sanctions or the policies of our banking and payments partners, including various anti-money laundering regulations.

For these reasons, we cannot serve customers in the following countries:

  • Afghanistan

  • Burma (Myanmar)

Do you support Family Sharing on the App Store?

Not at the moment.

Do you issue refunds?

We don't normally do. However, you can cancel your subscription anytime and enjoy the premium features until the end of the period you paid for.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Paddle subscriptions

Our Windows and Linux apps (and Lunatask for Mac downloaded from our website) use Paddle as a payment processor.

To cancel your Paddle subscription, open Settings → Billing in our desktop app and find the subscription in the list below the plans table. Each subscription in the list has a cancel button that takes you to a cancellation page.

Another option is to reply directly to the email with the payment receipt you received from Paddle on your last renewal, asking to cancel your subscription. Paddle's support team will then happily cancel the subscription for you, or send us a message and we can do that for you as well.

Alternatively, deleting your account will also cancel your Paddle subscription automatically.

App Store in-app purchase subscriptions

Unfortunately, Apple does not allow canceling subscriptions directly in the app. Instead, subscriptions purchased via an in-app purchase have to be canceled in the iOS or Mac App Store settings.

No worries, the process is easy – simply follow this guide from Apple.

Play Store subscriptions

To cancel your Play Store subscription, follow this article on Google's documentation portal.

When I delete my account, will my subscription be automatically canceled?

The subscription will be canceled automatically for subscriptions made in our desktop app via Paddle.

For App Store and Play Store subscriptions, you must cancel your subscription manually in the iOS settings, App Store, or Play Store apps.

Checkout always says “Something went wrong. Please try again later.”

We use Paddle as our primary payment processor in our desktop app.

As a payment processor, Paddle has robust fraud protection systems in place, and they may sometimes trigger even when not fully justified.

On its own, that isn’t fully a bad thing, but they never tell exactly what they don't like (to you as a user, but neither to us). Instead, Paddle only displays a generic error message to you, which isn’t helpful.

From our experience, it’s usually one of two things:

Too many failed payment attempts

After just a few unsuccessful payment attempts, Paddle’s fraud protection systems quickly place an invisible 24-hour block on you.

At this point, no matter which card you try (or if you switch to another payment method like PayPal), it won't work for the next 24 hours – it will only extend the block by another 24 hours.

Therefore, it’s important that you wait at least 24 hours before trying again. If the payment still does not go through, let us know. We'll reach out to Paddle to review their logs, identify the issue, and provide us with concrete information on what went wrong. We’ll then forward the information to you, but this process may take a few days.

However, once the block is lifted after 24 hours, in our experience, the payment usually goes through.

Combination of email aliasing/anonymization and VPN usage

If you use a VPN in combination with an email aliasing/anonymization service, that alone can appear too suspicious to Paddle.

In this case, please temporarily turn off the VPN – that often resolves the problem. However, please still wait at least 24 hours since your last payment attempt in case a temporary block is still in place for the reasons mentioned above.

Alternative solutions

Unless you intend to use a discount code (such as a student or teacher) and need the subscription to be processed by Paddle, you can alternatively make the purchase in our mobile app for iOS or Android, as they use Apple’s or Google’s payment systems instead.
